All- I am asking for your input on a study I am conducting that examines how the Army assesses leadership potential among Army Officers. This study will inform one of the papers required to complete my doctoral dissertation.

In an attempt to gather data with external validity, I am seeking input from fellow Army Officers (and former officers). I am hoping you can complete the survey at the link below. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete.

The link to the survey is here: http://yale.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_5hy1nTDC2V0zhR3

You should feel free to complete the survey more than once if you have specific people you would like to provide input on (all responses are kept anonymous, but I need input on all ranks and branches).

I realize you are very busy and that your time is precious. To compensate you for your time and to show my appreciation, those who complete this survey will be entered into a drawing to receive one of ten $25 Amazon gift cards.

Please, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at [login to see] .
Thank you for your time
Respectfully,
Jordon

Completed but I found this survey questions lacking as the OER system. These questions all lend to a popularity contest again and not getting at what makes the best leader. Competition is what is needed to find our best warriors not a one page fill in the blank form. As small as our Army is at battalion level and up commands why on earth would we not have a competition to earn the title of Commander. With only about 35 to 40 Maneuver battalion commands coming up each year why would we not have all officers eligible that are willing to volunteer come to one location to compete both physically and mentally for those positions regardless of year group. If you meet the criteria by rank then why not have open competition. Do we not deserve to have the best leaders at that particular moment in time? I bet you would find a far different outcome in who was selected for command if we truly had competition to show who is our toughest, strongest and tactically the smartest leaders. It would breed a tougher officer and one that soldiers new were the best not just the most popular with their boss. This would lead to an entirely different General Officer Corps that would be focused on Defeating the Enemy and not being Politically Correct.
