Assuming the favorite equals most widely spoken. It may be, but as I was growing up, Spanish was actually the most widely spoken language. Once again I don't know if that is true or not anymore.

Personally I believe that kids have a far greater opportunity to be multi-lingual today than ever before. My daughter and her husband have Netflix as their only source of TV. Ever since they got it, the grand kids may watch a show ONE TIME and ONE TIME ONLY in English. After that, the must use the language function and watch it in different languages. The kids are 9,7,4 and 3. The nine year old is proficient in Spanish, French, Kiswahili, and Hindi. The other three can make themselves understood in Japanese, Mandarin, and Spanish. The youngest can also understand some Turkish and Korean.
