Surprising as it may seem to many, the military is far better at project management than any civilian organization I ever worked with (and there were many). Remember, when the military isn't fighting a war, they're planning for war. Then revising their plans continually. That gives them lots of practice inasmuch as we spend more years at "peace" than at war. Scientific management was perfected in the military. Henry Gantt's timeline charts were first used by the American Expeditionary Force during WWI. PERT was developed by the US Navy. PMBOK (The Project Managers Book) is largely a reprint of military guides. That's why I highly recommend that NCOs and officers in transition consider a civilian career in project and program management. Trust me, the civilian world needs you

This sounds like an interesting book. I will have to look into it more. Thanks for the heads up!
