1974 Reagan UFO sighting over Bakersfield makes news in Korea

I'm watching a TV show on the Canadian History Channel call UFOs : the White House file.
President Carter and President Reagan both saw UFOs. They both saw them before they became president. This History Channel documentary suggest that President Reagan was affected so much that maybe he used the alien threat as part of the Star Wars Space Defense system that was never built. The purpose was to defend against the Soviet Union surprise missile attack.
The show claims that President H.W. Bush knew but would not release stuff since he was once a CIA director and President Clinton was stonewalled by the USAF.

It is interesting and unsurprising that the focus is on 'President Carter and President Reagan both [apparently seeing] UFOs. They both saw them before they became president.'

There are a great many stories about US presidents seeing UFOs. Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, was no exception. In President Reagan's 1987 United Nations speech on the alien threat, he stated, "Perhaps we need some outside universal threat to make us recognize this common bound. I occasionally think about how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish, if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world. And yet, I ask you, is not an alien force already among us?"
President Reagan's UFO sighting happened in 1974 while he was Governor of California. In a story Ronald Reagan told to Norman Miller, Washington Bureau Chief for the Wall Street Journal, the governor's plane was making an approach to land in Bakersfield California. It was during the descent that Reagan noticed a strange light behind the plane. "We followed it for several minutes, Reagan told Miler. "It was a bright white light. We followed it to Bakersfield and all of a sudden to our utter amazement it went straight up into the heavens."
Bill Paynter, the pilot stated, ""it appeared to be several hundred yards away" and it was "a fairly steady light until it begun to accelerate. Then it appeared to elongate. Then the light took off. It went up a 45 degrees angle at a high rate of speed. Everyone on the plane was surprised." Paynter added: "The UFO went from normal speed cruise to a fantastic speed instantly. If you give an airplane power, it will accelerate, but not like a "hot rod", and that's what this was like. I told the others I didn't know what it was.
