Hi, I'm currently 17 and in high school graduating in December. My ship date for Basic is May 17th and I have sworn in as a 25S. That wasn't the job I really wanted but I settled for it because of how it should treat me in the civilian world. I really wanted to do 15W because I like flight simulators of the sort. My recruiter told me I could reenlist while I'm in the Army to the 15W job but I don't know how accurate and true this is. I also as of now want to do some form of Special Forces but I don't know if these jobs are available to SF is there anywhere I could check to see if they are? Many thanks!

Special Forces is it's own MOS. You have to pass the selection for it. Anyone can apply.
You "can" change your MOS when it's time to reenlist but there is no guarantee that what you want will be available. Chances are what you wanted might not have even been available when you went to the MEPS.

Also, in and out calls play a factor for MOS change unless he does the SF assessment obviously! I know my MOS for example is always at a shortage so we haven’t had any out calls in years and we don’t allow in calls above SPC because of the knowledge needed to supervise the packing of parachutes and such! I know once you make SGT or higher for us the only way out of our MOS is a special packet and even then I know HRC still has to approve it! I know you know this SFC Boyd just thought it was something to add for the young future Soldier!

SFC(P) (Join to see) all very true, I just try not to overwhelm the recruits with too many terms they don't understand. I know when I first joined if someone said In/Out calls I would have been lost, so I try to keep it super simple, but thank you for adding all that in

If you are asking if you can switch jobs and perform a lateral move to another MOS down the road yes you can. Your recruiter isn't wrong but you also need to understand the recruiters perspective. They have a monthly quota to meet to get new folks signed up and shipped to boot camp. You getting the MOS you want is less important to the recruiter because they just need you to ship.

25S? OOOOOFFFFF........yeah on the civilian side that is gonna get you lots of $$$$ plus I think it comes with a TS so that will open a lot of doors.

But as far as the cool guy Army stuff, you wont see any of it. You will do weapons qual on your rifle, but thats it.
For going SF you can apply at any time after you hit the time in servies and rank requirements, regardless of what your MOS is...BUT you will be behind the power curve, because you will already need to have certain combat related skills to get selected for training. You can get those skills through the Army if you seek out people who have then to teach you...at a min read up on them (battle drills, land nav, patroling).
Now a commo back ground from an MOS like say....25S would be very helpful if you were to go for their commo MOS, as well as they do like to have guys cross trained in skills.
