I don't remember an 8-hour day unless it was on the drill pad in 100+ heat and don't recall anything really PC. I learned a lot about my mom from my TI in BMT. To this day- I can't believe she did the things he said....

The low discipline does not surprise me at all. Too much "PC". Thanks for the tag Capt. Hogan.

My mom was a bitch, and Jody was taking care of my girlfriend, I can’t tell you what my dad was but it had to do with oral sex, and my sister was a whore. I was a queer from Texas ‘cause I didn’t look like a steer, and oh yeah, I was a low life, scum sucking maggot with not enough sense to pour piss out of a boot. I was called troop, trainee, maggot, faggot, shit head, low life, and those were the nice things they called us. Our dress for the day was fatigues only on a 20 degree day with rain, and fatigues with jackets and ponchos on a sunny day. We ran one mile and five mile runs in boots through sandy uphills, not tennis shoes. All in all, I took what I got and tried to do better the next time. It wasn’t fun but it was real.

Thanks for letting us know, my friend SGT (Join to see) for sharing the news from TRADOC.
"The U.S. Army will soon launch a redesign of Basic Combat Training intended to build more discipline after many commanders complained that new soldiers often show up to their first units with a sloppy appearance and undisciplined attitudes.
By early summer, new recruits will go through Army BCT that's designed to instill strict discipline and esprit de corps by placing a new emphasis in drill and ceremony, inspections, pride in military history while increasing the focus on critical training such as physical fitness, marksmanship, communications and battlefield first aid skills."
FYI I commanded an infantry training company at Fort Benning, Georgia from February 1985 to September, 1986. Back then, Infantry OSUT training was conducted at Harmony Church [where I was] and Sand Hill where it in now conducted.

Thanks for your response LTC Stephen F.. I’m sure you were a hard nut to crack with your troops. I’m also sure you were a fair man and was respected by your troops.

SGT (Join to see) I agree with you. I do not like the direction that our country has taken from when we served. Welcome back friend!

I heard the other day that 70% of Americans are unfit to serve. This may be a call for us old retirees to serve by getting with our youth and letting them know there is more to life than little computer screens. I know it must be hard for our kids as I fought my weight all 21 years of service but still passed the APFT every time.

Sgt (Join to see), It makes it look like the Cadre has it’s hands tied, and they just go through the motions. I’m very proud of our troops, but I wonder when they caught on to the discipline needed to stay alive in a war. Obviously not in BCT.

MAJ (Join to see), Sir, that was back when we took pride in our appearance and respected the trainers and the training we received. I admit in BCT it was mostly out of fear, but after that it was respect. Do they even have General Orders mandated to be burned into their brains, and tested on them now?

SGT (Join to see) - The training we had would be considered cruel and harsh by today's standards. I firmly believe that I am alive today because of the training that I received.

Me too Sgt (Join to see), Me too. Had I not been disciplined, I would have made mistakes that would have cost the lives of the men I was in combat with.
