I have a friend at work who has been trying to enlist in the USAF Reserves and has been working on losing weight to make the standard. After months of no progress they went to the doctor to find out that they have a thyroid disease. They want to know if it will disqualify them from enlisting with that diagnosis?

hyperthyroidism is disqualifying,
hypothyroidism: may enlist as long as it controlled with medication. *it is not so simple as just taking a pill everyday.*
you first need to find the right dosage, this could take years. i was lucky that it only about two years for me. most/many people need to have blood work done every six weeks - three months for years. i had blood work done every three months for seven years. last year i finally graduated to every six months. your friend is just getting started on his thyroid adventure - it's a life time adventure.

I just got diagnosed with it. I don’t know how that is going to affect the remainder of my contract and with height and weight

SPC (Join to see) - For me the worst part before getting diagnosed and finding the correct dosage for me was the mental and emotional chaos that it can create. I was retired by the time my thyroid went south on me so professionally I didn't have worry about my weight.

SSG Laurie Mullen mine came up since I was having many side affects from the thyroid ie mental health, muscle pain etc that my doctor requested blood work. Found out with further blood work it’s hashimoto disease. I’m trying to find regs that might help me but so far some of the regs ive looked into haven’t helped

SPC (Join to see) - All I can say is good luck. My weight increased and then stayed pretty much the same for many years, before I started seeing any improvements.

Several factors to the "decision" - but in short, yes - probably.
