I really like those rules...I think for the most part I followed them once I made Captain. I am surprised I survived my time as an Lt; I definitely needed more help than I got. But I had a flight with no senior NCO (he was a drunk and was forced to retire) and a group of midlevels none of whom wanted to step up. Long story short, we all survived. I definitely had a lot to learn, I made a lot of mistakes. My saving grace was that I admitted them, learned from them and didn't make the same ones again.

Glad you enjoyed it LTC as an NCO I have experience my share of toxic leadership but the good ones did out number the few bad ones and thought this article was to good not to share

The piece about not being the smartest reminds me of a soldier asking me “why is the intelligence of the whole not greater than the sum of its parts?” meaning why are we only as smart as whoever is in charge. I always liked to ask my soldiers what they thought about our tasking with hopes that someone would think of a smarter way to get it done
