Low Recruit Discipline Prompts Army to Redesign Basic Training

1SG, I was just talking to another Soldier about how we were one of the last classes that actually got smoked during OSUT...before all the stress cards and HQDA patch shenanigans. Glad to see they’re getting back away from that nonsense. Thanks for your insight.

Sounds like we are simply getting back to the way things were when I was in basic training. Here is a thought, if we didn’t have BCT CSM’s and/or Commanders caudling trainees we would have never come to this point. I feel we need a Regulation from on high telling Drill Sergeants what they can and can’t do to trainees. Oh wait we already have one, it’s called AR 350-6. Leadership needs to stay out of the way and let Drill Sergeants conduct training and provide corrective action whenever and wherever they deem necessary. If this happens I guarantee the level of trained proficiency and discipline will greatly improve.
