Virtual Basic Leadership Course - I just finished this course and I know I had tons of questions about how it was going to play out. I am open to discuss the course if anyone needs to bounce questions off of me.

Overall the course went well considering it was 100% virtual. There are some adjustments to be made with D&C and PRT, but you will still go through the entire process and are expected to pass within the standard. The course is very heavily geared towards writing and public speaking, along with CIT. Pay attention to the Rubrics and ask questions if you feel you are not squared away.

The course moves fast so ensure you have worked out all of your computer issues before you start.

You will be sent out of the course for failure in any category, after a retest has been given of course.

The grading scale is no joke, you will get the grade you earn and no more. There are times when it seems like you are given more research time then needed, but trust me you will need it. This is no longer a course that just teaches you how to master level One skills and do hip pocket training. You will engage the Doctrine daily and are being taught how to lead, not just control.

I though the course was great, I took a lot from it, but I am also aware others did not.

Feel free to ask any questions if there are any.

How did they grade D&C and PRT? What was the process? you can't march your squad or lead PRT virtually?

We did PRT in front of a camera and they focused on mirror imaging, calling the exercise in order, cadence pace, and how we preformed the exercise. We did prep, 4 the core, CD 1,CD 2 and recovery.

For DnC we called out how to form up the squad, set up cones were the soldiers would be and did all the followed up to line them up. We then inspected the squad and then marched in place calling the commands. They watched us via live feed and verified we called commands on the proper steps and that our cadence was appropriate

From what I was told when I went to in person BLC, they were having soldiers “lead it” in front of the camera on their computer.

It's hard for me to process how virtual ANYTHING will replace the old school methods... but then I AM old school.

SSG William Jones it was interesting for sure, but I am fortunate that I have taken the last three years of College virtually, so I was better prepared than some others. The course work was well thought out, so the fact that we were virtual did not hinder the progress much
PRT and D&C were the most interesting... I did them in my back yard and my neighbors just sat there watching me march around cones by myself screaming out commands... they must have thought "he finally lost his shit" ... HA HA

The feeling is mutual... all this virtual nonsense can’t compare with the real thing.

They called it Primary Leadership Course in my day. There was nothing virtual about it except you were there live! As an E-4, I could have easily made E-5 if I had re-enlisted but I was too young to understand what I had. Oh well. It was still a good course. That has been 42 years ago now.
