Land nav, iron sights and more discipline: Big changes are coming to Army basic training

It’s about time they get back to this type of training! When they push them thru basic training then tru their AIT training so they can get sent to the duty station of course they are going to lack structure and respect for their NCOs and Officers. These young kids coming in today with stress cards and all sorts of issues saying that a drill sergeant cannot get in their face because it will break their spirits or hurt their tiny egos. When that is what basic training WAS FOR. to break you down, then to rebuild you into a confident soldier.

Why change something that was not broke in the first place?

We got demolished every day because discipline was such an issue in our company. Our cadre were top notch, and knew how to make corrective training painful, even with the "new army" guidelines. What they couldn't do was break the defiant Pieces of shit that didn't deserve to become soldiers. There were many who graduated who I would not trust to guard a port-a-shitter down range.

First off, when did the APFT drop to a 50/50/50 requirement. It was 70/70/70 10 years ago. Bringing back qualifying with iron sights... when did this stop? Also explains why we have fat, out of shape privates coming to the unit that take 4 or 5 iterations to qualify. If we weren't getting smoked or doing area beautification, we were out on the slab doing D&C.

The lack of discipline also falls on leadership. There is a problem with toxic leaders and operating on the good ol boy system. It's hard to discipline subordinates when they see NCOs getting away with actions that should be punished under UCMJ but instead get promoted or an award. This is why the Army is breeding a generation of worthless NCOs. Then again, it could be just ARMEDCOM and MEDCOM in general that operates like this.
