I am currently in the guard in a medical detachment. I have been looking around to try to find a deployment with not a lot of success. I had casually made an inquiry with our organization G3 and they probably told me just to look at Tour of Duty and didn't do any additional research. Since then I have been trying to find something on my own. I even if I found a reserve unit to transfer to that would have more opportunities for deployments at high speed schools, only to find out that is most likely not the case. I also work as a civilian in the Army Medical structure so I was thinking about asking around there. also work as a civilian in the army Medical structure so I was thinking about asking around there would it be better to continue to try to look on my own or should I sit down with my unit chain of command and Express my desire and Trust that they will be able to help me?

Tour of Duty.
Your chain of command has no vested interest in going out of their way to find an individual deployment for you and losing you for a year, and neither does your full-time employer. But if either one were willing to help you, they would just be looking on Tour of Duty also.

Honestly, I know it sounds too easy to be the truth, but just talk to people and find a unit that is going on a deployment and get in touch with their readiness guys and manning, and keep your chain notified that it is something your pursuing.

I would imagine medical has a harder time making something like that happen, because if an artillery unit is going they probably wouldn't take you.. but it doesnt hurt putting in the legwork to make some calls and network with other units.

This 100% ^^^

Be proactive and advocate for yourself. It's much better than going the MOBCOP route.

You could also check with dod.pfi but i haven't seen much medical on there.

I'm in Kuwait, I could ask one of the medical guys.
