Retired E8-E9, should your status be used as a bully platform?

Do you feel that your service and retired status should give you influence and/or favor in how your child is treated within his unit? Should he be treated special in any different manner as long as he is properly cared for and the orders he is given is lawful, moral and ethical. Is you child so super more important to you that I should not enforce the standard to him?
Should your child get a pass from being forward deployed into the fight zone as an infantry soldier because of your past service? And that service you did never placed you into harms way?
Oh and then when you are pushing this type of narrative, you deem your child should not only be released from deployment, but that he receive a letter of recommendation for that same child to be on Officer candidate.

Does this truly require a response?
Luckily, I know my children were raised right, and would never even think of trying to get some kind of favorable treatment like this.
They are proud of me, and I of them. What makes me proud is what they earn, not what they were given.

I would Respond to the father as follows. Thank your for your service sir. Right now I am in charge of this outfit and your son/daughter comes under me. We have a mission to accomplish and every person is vital to that mission. Our job is to insure we all come home safely. We work as a team and your child is part of that team.

I feel like you know the answers to all of these questions already.
One thing is add is that most infantry folks that I worked with WANTED to deploy and would be pretty upset of someone tried to screw that up for them.

Way back in Desert Storm 1, I was over seas in active duty as a buck Sgt. Desert Storm 2, I was in the box as a E-6. As a “top” I wanted to deploy but retirement called. I advise anyone who is new to the military to go TDY, or over seas to see how things are done. A bit different than state side.

Major: I salute you! We serve as Soldiers and I once served as a Marine to fight - primarily because that is what we are trained and paid to do. We fight to protect our nation and in many cases other less fortunate allies that need our help. Obviously, we fight to support the man or woman to our left, right, rear, or front. A strong military and brave volunteers like you are what deter wars. We have been attacked as a nation or challenged when we allowed our military to be weakened through budget cuts, political indifference, and too often we do not learn or remember the lessons of history. God Bless you for your service and for setting us straight. One more thing, I was on active-duty during Viet Nam and later, I was in the National Guard and Army Reserves. We started getting deployed more around Desert Shield/Storm and I always volunteered because I thought it was the right thing to do. The reserve forces are much stronger and resolute now because most service members know they will probably be deployed and many of them are combat veterans. Those unwilling to deploy may have legitimate reasons such as family issues or other factors influencing their decisions but in my humble opinion, if you are not willing to deploy you are in the wrong business. Frankly, if I were put in a position in which a retired SM attempted to influence anything having to do with their child's career, I would tell them outright to fuck off.

SSgt Joseph Baptist - yes - I try hard not to get into pissing contests with Soldiers 2 ranks above me, I learned the hard way that even if I am right, I am wrong. You just cannot tell field grade officers or NCO's that their vision or plan is just plain stupid, even if you have a solution. though they are right quick to say your plan or solution is stupid.
