BIOGRAPHY – LIEUTENANT COLONEL ANDREW J. DEATON
Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Andrew J. Deaton, a native of Maui, Hawaii, completed the Army ROTC early commissioning program at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico and commissioned as a 2LT in May 1996. LTC Deaton subsequently completed his baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. LTC Deaton has also earned Master of Arts Degrees in Justice Studies from Fort Hayes State University in Kansas and a Business and Organizational Security Management degree from Webster University in Missouri. He entered active duty in 1998.
LTC Deaton’s duty assignments include: Platoon Leader, A Co, 5/112 Armor Regiment, 49th Armor Division (TXARNG); Platoon Leader, 300th Military Police Company, Fort Riley, Kansas; S1, Fort Riley CID BN, Fort Riley, Kansas; Assistant S2/S3, 19th Military Police Battalion (CID), Korea; Deputy Long Range Plans Officer, 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas; Commander, HHD, 720th Military Police Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas; Battalion Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 61st Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; S3, 36th Iraqi Army Brigade (Mechanized) Military Transition Team (MiTT 0930), Camp Taji, Iraq; Brigade S3, 15th Military Police Brigade, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and Commander, 40th Military Police Battalion (Internment/Resettlement) (Rear) (Provisional), Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. LTC Deaton is currently serving as the Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435 CJ3 Deputy Director of Operations, Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan.
LTC Deaton’s military education includes: U.S. Army Airborne School, Military Police Officer Basic Course, Military Police Captain’s Career Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), Special Reaction Team School, Hostage Crisis Negotiations Course, the DoD Inter-service Non-Lethal Individual Weapons Instructor Course, the Basic and Advanced Military Transition Team (MiTT) Training Courses, the Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP) Instructor Levels I and II courses and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) Intermediate Level Education (ILE) course.
LTC Deaton’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (w/2 Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (1OLC), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (w/numeral 3), Combat Action Badge, Army Parachutist Badge, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (permanent award), and the Meritorious Unit Commendation (permanent award).
LTC Deaton’s first deployment was to Operation Iraqi Freedom II in 2004, where he served concurrently as the 89th MP Brigade liaison officer to the Multinational Corps-Iraq (MNC-I) Provost Marshal Office and the MP Force Generation OIC for MNC-I, responsible for rotational planning of all MP assets in the Iraqi theater of operations. LTC Deaton’s second combat tour was to Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-09 where he served as the S3 for an Iraqi Army Brigade Military Transition Team. LTC Deaton is currently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
LTC Deaton is the founder and CEO of “HONOR THE SACRIFICE”, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting and honoring Veterans, current service members, and their Families. Major organizational accomplishments include, among others, helping multiple Veterans and their Families keep their homes, helping a Veteran move out of a homeless shelter, assisting severely injured Veterans during recover, supporting a post-9/11 combat Veterans’ retreat organization, public PTSD and suicide prevention awareness, and investigative research resulting in a Veteran receiving their overdue Purple Heart.
LTC Deaton is married to the former Cherie’ L. Brooks. Between them, they have three sons and one daughter.
