Platoon Sergeant for a 81mm mortar platoon on this deployment. Haiti seems to be the text book definition of God-forsaken. But, we did what we could to help while we were there. Made the Army Times for an ignominious event that didn't directly involve me but me and the PL both took it in the shorts.

Still FDC chief for the same 81mm mortar platoon. The fear of chemical attacks was very real but I hated taking those pills. Not to mention, we had a "die in place" mission until the heavier units got there. Second Christmas in a row spent away from the wife but my son was born 2 days after I got home.
