Throughout my 21 years of active (1975-1989) and reserve (1989-1996) military service, I gained considerable leadership experience in positions of increased responsibility where "special trust and confidence" was required.
My active duty assignments included tours as a Marine Security Guard in Moscow, U.S.S.R. (1977-1978) and Geneva, Switzerland (1978-1979); and as a Marine Security Guard Detachment Commander in Beirut, Lebanon (1983-1984) and Pretoria, South Africa (1984-1986).
I retired from military service in September 1996 and went on to a rewarding career in the federal government. My civil service career included tours with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (2002-2008), the U.S. Department of State (2008-2009), and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (2009-2016). I retired from federal service in August 2016.
