Began my military career by joining the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1988 while I was in college. I was assigned to the HHC 1/135 as a combat medic. I then went on active duty with the Air Force as a law enforcement specialist. My first assignment was to Federal Republic of Germany with Det. 1, 86th Combat Support Group. Next duty was Vandenberg AFB. Joined the USAF Reserves and retired.
Began civilian law enforcement when I was hired as a detention deputy for the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department. Worked there for two years before being hired by the Rochester Police Department in May of 1995. Worked primarily in the patrol division. After attending the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension course for crime prevention, I was the department's only Crime Prevention Officer at the time. Was in that position for eight years. Retired from the department after suffering a stroke about twelve hours later and could not return to work.
