I am headed to AF officer training on June 26th. How do I PCS without orders in hand and should I wait until I get my orders to get a uhaul?

JPPSO usually wants you to ask for the DITY/PPM in advance with orders in hand, since the orders are the funding authorization for the move. The so what is they may not reimburse. Is your training a PCS move or TDY Enroute? I remember that my move was actually done from the midway point of OBC and my HhG were picked up from my home of record and sent to my first permanent duty station.

If you have to report 26June, you should have orders already.

Definitely wait until you get orders to travel, since the orders themselves will tell you when to commence your travel. Also, they will outline all the details for you in order to conduct your move as smoothly as possible, in accordance to AF policy, and with resources. It you think you should have gotten the orders bu now, contact HR and let them know, slip ups happen...

Would you have to put any type of non-refundable deposit down? If so, how much is it? I usually err on the side of caution and wait for orders, but it's peak moving season for civilians and military alike so making a reservation might not be a bad idea. On another note, have you looked into Penske rentals? I've done several big moves over the past few years and their trucks seemed to be better maintained.
