On Saturday, June 16, 1973, I took the oath of office to become a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. It was one of the greatest days of my life. My mother and father (U.S. Navy, WWII) and both sisters were there. My uncle (U.S. Army, WWII) who retired as a colonel in the USAR was there in uniform.
