Is this right?

“ Attention:

Until further notice, there will be a sign in sheet for all personnel, E6 and below.

You will sign in and out whenever leaving the living the area from 1700 until 2200. This is not an option. Soldiers still can’t do right apparently so these measures will just get worse if people continue to mess up. There will be an E5 assigned each day to handle the sign in roster. If an individual is found out and about without signing out squad leader and section SGT will receive a counseling for dereliction of duty. If that SGT is not able to be gotten ahold of the SGT will receive the same counseling.”
I need answers please let me know this violates some kind of right or anything that a whole company is being restricted of their movement because of two other soldiers decided to break the rules. The rule was we were placed on a 2200 curfew till pt formation at 0600 couple soldiers were caught outside their rooms.

is this right - absolutely. Leaving the company area is a pass, passes are a privilege, not a right, and command can revoke them, set limits upon, or even deny them altogether. This is more then just 2 Soldiers screwing up, and more like a pattern of screw-ups over a period of time that has finally come to a head. My opinion is this doesn't go far enough, and should have the SFC's involved as well.

Sounds like a case of mass punishment and overkill.

My sentiments too. That is a good way to make soldiers and NCOs hate the army.

Punishment? Overkill? HOW???
Off duty time is a Pass, subject to whatever restrictions the command levies. All they're asking for is personnel accountability. When did ya leave, when did ya return.
Sheesh.

Respectfully sir, how is it overkill? After all, it may only apply to troops at the Squad level, and not an entire unit. Otherwise, I'd expect to see an actual memorandum with a CO's or a 1SG's signature. While I've never seen an entire squad issued THAT kind of restriction, I have seen squads (including my own) be assigned, "Extra Training."
I know in the "modern" Army, troops usually do not have to sign in or out (except on Leave), but when we'd be on certain alert levels, we certainly had to. While I know that's different than the original post's policy, it's related.
