All right Senior NCOs... Those who have followed my previous posts already know what direction this one is going, so pop the popcorn and let's light the fireworks. I vehemently despise careerism...especially in our enlisted corps. First and foremost, we do not have careers. We have terms of enlistment, and a few of us are fortunate enough to collect enough of them to become eligible to apply for retirement. Second, my mission is to enable our pilots to put warheads on foreheads, provide close air support, or move troops and material. It even says so in our Creed and our Little Brown Book. Quit pushing the block checking. We are weaker for it, and we owe our Nation, and the next generation of Airmen better.

How Mandatory Careerism is Killing Airpower

You want to help the enlisted force. Get rid of the politically correct Army (oh I mean) Airman's Creed and the Little Brown (idiots guide) Book and get back to pushing jets into the sky. Oh and speaking about "Careerism" did you see that General Welsh, who retired less than 6 months ago has been hired by...drum roll please...Northrop-Grumman! If you don't remember it's been less than a year after Gen Welsh pushed for the DoD to award of the B-21 bomber contract to...second drum roll please... Northrop-Grumman. Now that's "Careerism".

Now that's a position. I know a lot of AF and Navy guys working for Northrop-Grumman doing much the same jobs they did in the military only they make four times the pay. Rocks are smart enough to know a good deal when they see one. If its(a civvy Job) there in front of you and you don't take advantage of the job offer or they aren't trying to hire you away from the AF that's when you stay an E-8 or E-9 and retire

The difference is that he influenced a decision worth BILLIONS, most of those guys you know didn't have that power.

Always cared more about the job than thever "career". Do a great job, take care of your troops, make sure they are prepared to take my job when the time comes. Don't get me wrong, I was/am proud of what I achieved, and yes I probably could have gotten a couple more promotions. I just loved my job and my troops and wanted to continue what doing, if had I been promoted it would have menno realignment, more office, less flying, so I chose the job and damn proud of it.

No disagreement from me there. I sincerely hope that the force turns a 180 and redirects our focus where it really counts. We are stretched too thin to be as effective as we should be...

MSgt Mike Briney - I agree, when getting promoted is more important than the mission, something has got to give!

MSGT. You left me behind with this discussion then again it shouldn't bother me. When did Creeds and little brown books get in the career path. I read all posts and It didn't help me much. Did the little boxes take the place of APR's. Sound like a little to much PC for me. Luck to you all. Retired E-7

MSgt Mike Briney - The APR's that MSgt John McGowan refers to pretty much covered every Airmans job/skillset. One (1) being the lowest in performance and nine (9) being....man this kids the greatest. (unlike 1-5) I don't recall apr's referencing college degrees, fitness testing, or whether or not you showed up at official events. It was all about how well you knew your stuff and how you performed.
The AF910 EPR ....well..lets just say I had serious issues with.
You have my respect for your desire to focus on the mission at hand without all the side show mumbo jumbo.

MSgt Briney To the ones that commented on my post. Thank You. Most APR were inflated in my day. Except mine:) But they were and they did not want you to hurt anyone unless they were totally worthless. And you get a supervisor that had a different writing style if you were the reporting official you had problems. I wrote one four times and he didn't like them. But you just about had to inflation them because everyone else did. It was totally out of hand but endorsing officials wrote theirs the same way. But once you got to the NCO ranks you were at least known
