Well, considering that almost every chief was an E-4 at one time, I think WO's hold the advantage here. Not only do they have the experience of being in the E-4 mafia, they now have authority to tell everyone else what their job is, since no one seems to know what WO's do in the first place..... ;o)

SSG (Join to see) - "if I told you, I'd have to kill you." you just proved that you were never E-4 Mafia, because in the old days they said "I will loose your finance records" Now days they say "DELETE, DELETE"

SSG (Join to see) - Best not to say, food for thought Spec 4 are the ones to see for helicopter flights. The Specialist Mafia starts with the Spec 4, once they make SGT they are required to become silent members (neuralizered), of course there are exceptions. In the 1970's we had Specialist as high as Spec 8, also the legendary Spec 9 that was the God Father, he carried the first issued Government Black pen. The power of the Spec 4 in today's time, is that they have control of the deadly DELETE button.

Lol, I wish the shamming rumors were true sometimes but I've never had the chance to make up my own hours since becoming a Warrant Officer. Even as a SPC, I didn't have much time to sham either. My sham time was between PVT-PFC, ever since making SPC, I've been on the go. Maybe one day I'll get to leave an extra PC and ACU top at my desk before I retire.

SGT (Join to see) - "Warrant Wizardy" I like that. You are correct, there is always plenty of things to do in the maintenance field to make the organization better. It kills me when I get stuck just doing staff work. I'd rather stay in the motor pool and manage maintenance and logistics and training Officers, NCO's and Soldiers to be better maintainers any day.

CW4 (Join to see) - If a WO is doing Staff work, including Staff Duty, someone's doing something wrong. Makes little sense having Warrants on SD, especially if Company barracks duty SOP states you will only call attention for commanding officers, but you look like a douche for not saying anything with a WO2 enters your AO.

SGT (Join to see) - In most units W1's and W2's will still pull BN and BDE staff duty unless if your boss gets you exempt. I haven't pulled duty since 2012 and even then it was like once every 4-5 months. I can't complain about that. As for staff work, it's just part of the job. Tons of readiness reviews and briefings to attend and you have to ensure that your piece of the pie is covered and to make sure your boss has the most relevent and true data to make informed and timely decisions on all maintenance maters, so for me, managing readiness starts and ends in the motor pool but in between, I've got a lot of slides, spreadsheets and MDMP to accomplish to ensure that all maintenance tasks are being completed efficiently and proficiently.

CW4 (Join to see) - A 91B once showed me all the maintenance trackers he had to update for the Company XO once. I sighed in relief. . . until I had to update stats for CBRN and TACCOMS equipment. *tear

My old PSG had the entire platoon go out and "survey a hill" in the woods.... When in actuality the Division commander was in the building and random platoons were getting put on cleaning duties, etc.... Outta sight out of mind! I can tell you it was the best nap I've had in a while
