Hey everyone I'm new on here. I got off active duty from 2/5 Echo in February of last year. I got out to go to college and I am about half way to my bachelors degree, and my goal is to get back in with a commission. I have also been considering ( in light of new SDA and SSRB BONUSES ) going back enlisted and picking up an sda or a lateral move then going the ECP route. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? My primary mos is 0311

Cpl Rupke,
If serving is what's true in your heart, then the desire for bonuses or money is the wrong motivation for a decision. The Services are never a profitable endeavor. Having said that, my advice would to see a OSS officer and join the commissioning process. A mustang is among thee most respected of officers and your experience as an NCO can prove to be the best tool you have in the service. I wish you the best of luck. I just gave the same speech to my youngest son who is a Sgt at Camp Parks. He commissions in Feb '18. Semper Fi!

I agree it's what's in your heart my daughter joined the Navy after a couple semesters of college for both reasons, her hard work earned her IT2 after only 18 months and worked on her AS 1 credit left, she has served in operation Inherent Resolve and been around the world she proudly serves with VAQ-130 electronic fighter squadron. Now on her way to Alaska lol
My advise was, simply see the world you will never get a better education,

With a MOS of 0311 you don't have many options.

I don't know your entire financial situation but if you are single, have low debt or no debt and are utilizing the GI bill your best course of action financially would simply be to pay off what you can and pursue whichever path you feel you will enjoy the most realizing that if you re-enlist it will be the needs of the Corps as decided by your unit command that determine whether you are able to move into OCS while inlisted. If the unit you are re-upping with needs your MOS bad enough to offer big money, they probably won't want to let you go. Keep sight of your goals but don't forget to enjoy the journey. Best wishes.
