So help me out here...

Really? Tracking didn't follow that? Couldn't follow that? Not very comforting kids... I think if I was Ponce's skipper I'd kinda want to know my support's weapons are working. Outstanding that AEGIS picked it up but we need to make sure that kills are verified.
But...
By the same token, why the f**k are we advertising that the weapon missed? Let the enemy think that their missiles are operating 100% and just got shot down. So now achmed the engineer's not gonna go over the remaining stock to make sure they work? Good work dumb-erica. Maybe next time they'll succeed in killing Americans. Honestly...we are our own worst enemy.
I would have just come and said "Navy ship shoots down two cruise missiles" and be done with it. Public back patting ceremony for the crew, Battle E, MUC and then paint two "kill markings" on the bridge wing. Let the 'ranians think that their PERFECTLY WORKING missiles just got shot down. Now, we've saved them 1000 man hours by saying one of them may have just gone into the water on it's own.

Yes and no. I'd love to go into detail but I can't do that on here. The fact that they did get missiles off means the watch team was firing on all cylinders.

I agree same as letting public know that it was SEAL TEAM 6 members who were killed when helo shot down attempting rescue during the "LONE SURVIVOR" action I don't think have let enemy know that it was members of the same Team that got Bin Laden so they could use as recruiting tool "LOOK ALLAH HAS PUNISHED THE INFIDELS FOR THEIR DEEDS."

why a few days before returning fire? I Always assumed as a US warship, that if fired on, we could immediately return superior firepower on the aggressor until it was destroyed. Assumed any aggressor would know this and refrain from attacking us. Without this deterrence policy, you have these incidents increase in number, putting our sailors at risk.

You are correct, they can if they believe that being fired on is true act of aggression against them and they believe that the crew of the vessel or vessels are in a life treating situation, and the CO. must take full responsibility for the return fire order and must know what and where precisely the target is.So there for most CO,s prefer to hold as long as possible to insure target locations are correct and precise before issuing a full return fire order. And they prefer to get the ok from the Pentagon.
