My question is for senior maintenance NCO’s. I have looked in the regulations and career map. However, I’m looking for more of as a common sense look.

I have been as a SSG in SFC slots. I have been the section sgt, battalion motor sgt, and MCS. I am tracking KD time for us. So my question is, when I pin SFC do I need to do those again? I ask because what if I do a spo job, maintenance manager job, or something like that. So my question is should i go do those jobs again. I am currently an instructor I fielded GCSS-army before I PCSD Here for my battalion and 2 others.

My second question is if I only do one year in a broadening job (instructor) and try to go to a joint base(wcha) which I would be back in a Motorpool just different job type. Would it help me I think it would help. I have talked to a lot of seniors MSG and above and I’m just trying to get different opinions so I can kind of just see where my seniors look at and for. Thank you for your time.

1SG Christopher Verga 1sg, interesting. Do you know if they did well in the job? I made SFC pretty quickly in my career. I have been airborne my entire career in a motor pool with a lot of field time and a lot of motor pool time. When I hit up my branch to get my MOP score I asked them about going to wcha and they are saying the same thing. (He is a SFC) However, I have talked to a lot of 1sg and sgm and they are in between. I have met 3 sfc that came from there and it helped them make msg. I could try the SFAB. However 1sg, I think it’s just the hot and poppin and it’s hit and miss for career progression. I am going to look into platoon sgt I have looked in a lot of fsc for platoon sgt time. I haven’t been rated as a platoon sgt time so I think it would look good to have it. More importantly I can actually just focus on training and mentor troops and that would be main focus as well as getting them out of details. Haha

SFC (Join to see) sounds like a sound decision! I would also say try to get sent to an ABCT. That way you could be well rounded and know how a non airborne unit works. I was in ABCT/HBCT for my whole career I came up as a 91A Abrams Mechanic. They only pick about five of us a year for MSG. When I was a First Sergeant at Stewart I came on orders to Drum and I will tell you the mindset was totally different. I would say it good to be well rounded but nothing can beat Leadership time with the troops!!

1SG Christopher Verga I have actually been trying. I tried to volunteer for Korea and Kuwait and they said they need me more in an airborne unit. My cousin is actually a 91a. They treat him well over there in Carson. Yeah I came here to lee and met a lot of 1id guys and there mind set is completely different then mine. 1sg you’re right about leadership time. You can learn from them all. You can also put a lot of energy into them so that they can take your spot after we get out. Thank you for your conversation. Your the first 91 senior that has given me an honest opinion on moves

SFC (Join to see) not a problem in my opinion that’s how it’s suppose to be done. Remember always give honest feedback to your Soldiers good and bad and they will respect you much more for it. Good luck to you if you ever have anymore question please don’t hesitate to contact me. Take care.
