Here is the thing that irritates me - this is a LtCol - one who has certainly been around long enough to "know better". Whether he is guilty or not, there is a thing called "perception" and we all need to have guardrails in place to avoid these "perceptions" - it's part of being a senior leader. That means I'm not alone w/people of the opposite sex, I don't ride in a car alone, go out to eat, have private counseling - none of that - period.

If you have guardrails in place, you are far less likely to be perceived in this type of situation.

I can tell you where I DIDN'T have them - in my private quarters, in THIER private quarters, in any barracks/home, alone in the car, etc... They were done in a professional, public place - like the office building and they were all done at the same time - it was no secret. This is not rocket science, just common sense really. On the occasions that I did have to pull a female aside to have a private conversation, it was public knowledge that it was happening - the conversation was private (perhaps to make a correction, give advise, or simply provide an opinion) but the action was public. It wasn't "Meet me at the bar tonight and we can talk about that... "

MSgt Copeland I do understand what you are saying about the feedback portion as well as all other statements that you have made. There are indeed ways around the feedback portion. You can have a third party (of the same sex) as a "sit in" for safety reasons for yourself! The third party should be briefed on confidentiality (to cover you) as well as nothing will be discussed on the feedback or anything like it UNLESS a there is possibly a threat made by the secondary party. We have done this and the complaints and "thoughts" to others have come to a massive halt!

Agreed, avoid any and all perceptions. In my last assignment, a couple of the women there were occasionally loose with their language which was laced with sexual innuendo. Mind you, I'm not talking about them coming on to a guy, I'm talking more like what we'd call 'locker room' talk, except it was the females engaging it in the presence of a man (me). Now let me say first and foremost, the guy in me LIKED it; no, make that LOVED it. The professional in me wouldn't respond whatsoever. I just looked at them, made a little half grin, turned around and went back to my cubicle without saying a word. My perception of the AF environment at that time, 2014, was that THEY could do that and get away with it, but if I indulged in sexual innuendo and they then complained to the SARC or JAG about it, I'd get crucified for it. The rule guys with the women in today's service: Be totally PROFESSIONAL around them 24/7 and you'll NEVER get in trouble.

As though we need any more "black eyes" in the pacific. If this is true which going to court martial leads me to believe it may be then I hope he is dealt with appropriately. If it's all false then I hope he comes out clean, either way his career is over.

SMSgt (Join to see), your right, even if it is a false accusation, his career is over. He is likely DNIF, removed from patient care, and his flight commander billet, which will in turn reflect on his OPR regardless of the outcome.
