Should be real interesting, our seagoing sailors are inadequately trained, overextended and our priority is bonding? Is staffing sufficient on the was ships to absorb the missing crew member with out Port and starboard, further exacerbating the situation of exhaustion of watch standers. Makes little sense to this old Chief.

Current policy states that the paternity leave must be taken within the 1st year. If we as leaders can't manage that, shame on us.

Not for sure if this is good or bad. My father died when I was in boot Camp. I got 10 Days emergency leave. The Master Chief Personnelman told me, Son if you can get back in five days we will keep you in your company. I was back in 4.

Roger, if you’re still on active duty I’d encourage you to study emotional intelligence. I won’t lecture you, but think it would do you done good. Readiness starts with focus. And a Sailor that is squared away at home will focus more at work.

No, far from active duty, I retired after just over 20 years. Unless you have stood 4-8s for weeks or months, drills almost daily with field days thrown in for good measure, your experience is lacking. Can’t speak for skimmers, but subs deploy for weeks at a time and are “manned” to fit the watch bill. Who fills in for the person/s that are remaining ashore for three months? Oh, BTW, despite the hardships, I don’t recall ships and submarines playing bumper cars and killing crew members. I pass on your emotional intelligence and lectures. Further, I seldom debate unverified RP posters. I gave benefit of doubt to you because we have a few points in common. Also, one can see where the other is coming from. For example, amount of sea time. As I did for most of my career.

You have to be there to lay the keel, but not when the ship is launched. My PO1 1977
