What is wrong with bliss? There are far worse bases the army can place you at for your tour. My advice PFC is go to bliss, give it your all. Hunt the good stuff. As a lower enlisted you are drinking from a fire hose your first couple of years trying to learn Army culture. Bury yourself in your job and start taking college courses. You’ll be so busy you won’t have time to think about what you don’t like about an area. El Paso is a pretty cool area actually.

My final advice is this. The army is going to at some point in your career make you go somewhere you don’t want to go or do something you don’t want to do. That’s part of serving with the big green machine. That’s what you signed up for when you took the oath. Now if you can’t use your resiliency training and adapt then I’d suggest you pop smoke as soon as your commitment to Uncle Sam is up because that is just the hard and fast reality of being a soldier.

The hunt the good stuff only goes so far. While I've had some good times at Bliss, I've also experienced more racism and seen more examples of DV, DUIs, the good ole boys club sweeping things under the rug for SNCOs yet kick joes out, and sexual assault than any other duty station I've been assigned.

That being said, if the army cuts orders, Charlie mike. It can be what you make it though. Long as you don't get shitty leadership.

Not sure if they still do, but Army Time used to publish a weekly list. Also, if it really urge you that much, you can always volunteer for a one year Kore tour.

All about 1 year, go there and knock it out. Then just before halfway thru, request a follow on. Unless things are different, most likely folks get their top 3 choices after a Korea tour.

PFC (Join to see) please explain to me what is a "swaps" list. I been in the Army 20 years and this is the first time I hear of it. Second, if you want to PCS, contact branch.

MSG (Join to see) 1SG, for some reason folks still referencing list that Army Times used used to publish in a weekly basis. It used to be like a newespapaers classifieds section where Soldiers, looking for a state side swap, posted their names, info, and desired location. The intent was that, hopefully, some othe qualified Soldier from their desired location, would do the swap. But the last time I saw it was about the same time Moses splitted the Red Sea.

SGT Roberto Mendoza-Diaz thank you for the share, I was aware that Soldiers can exchange pcs PCS assignment but never heard of this agreement to exchange duty stations. But seems like a fairly new program. I am glad that the Army is really trying to make soldiers happy, and allowing SMs to take control of their careers.
