I've heard that you are authorized 10 days of free leave to move your family to the new duty station. However, my wife is unsure if she's willing to move or not. So in case I take that 10 days leave, and come back to my duty station without my wife, will they count it to my 30 days of leave/year or what will happen to me?

The 10 days is for you to find a house at your duty station. If she doesn't move with you you will still need to find a house there since you are married. If you two are the only ones who can take care of your mother-in-law you can make her a dependent so she is able to go with you two where ever you PCS so you aren't paying for two households since the Army wont pay you extra if your wife living somewhere else.

Since you are married you will get BAH for your duty station and not where you wife lives and since you are married you will have to live in a house and use your BAH. Units don’t let married people live in barracks. So if she is gonna live in California you better find a cheap apartment to live at or she needs to move with youSPC (Join to see)

I would say the honest thing to do is not take the 10 days if she doesn't move.

So I guess the wife isn't ride or die eh? Sounds like she is not really on board or does not understand that you are in the Army and appears that the family is not a unit... this will almost certainly cause problems in the future. Wanna bet on it?

the thing is because she's taking care of her old mother back home. She's talking to her sisters and brothers so see if any of them can take care of her mother for her so she can leave with me. That's why I'm not sure if she'll be able to come with me to the new duty station after taking that 10 tdy leave days

If you take the 10 days PTDY, it must be taken at the duty location because it’s to find a place to live. If you don’t take the 19 days in the duty location you will be charged leave. SPC (Join to see)

Well that's a decent reason I suppose. As previously mentioned though make sure she knows that the Army will not pay her rent. Hopefully things work out for you and your family.
