That was my sleeve minus the quills and added the caduseus at my retirement in 1990. The gold had been added just the month before so it was really bright and shiny. I felt proud of the uniform and of the career I was putting to bed.

Do remember ever seeing a painting hanging either on the ship (first class mess) or somewhere called “The Wheels.” It was Norman Rockwell styled of three first class PO’s sitting on the fantail (?).
