You'll definitely earn your paycheck as an Electricians Mate. You guys own a ton of gear on the ship. Basically everything that deals with power distribution and lighting and some things you normally wouldn't think of(like the Horizon Reference System for helicopter flight decks). Never seems like there are enough of you guys.

Are you currently FTS, or will that be something new for you as well?

At the bottom of your original post there is a small "edit". If you click that it will allow you to edit your post. You'll then see a box labeled: "Tag by Topics (1 required, 5 max, separated by commas)" near the bottom of the editing area. You should see your PO2 tag highlighted by a blue box. Just type in CPO and select the CPO chevrons that pop up then the same with PO1. The Navy ranks have the black background with gold chevrons, the light blue with red are Coast Guard.

PO2 (Join to see) - I can understand on the fact of family issues or circumstances that cause you to want to stay shoreside. Honestly, EMs have a big responsibility on the ship more than shore (from my experience). It is difficult to be away from family but with your rate, the availability to rank up and the hands-on experience is well worth being on a ship. I hope your family circumstances are in a better state so that you can experience the ship life as an EM.

Hey man going FTS (from my experience) you'll rank up faster. With that said it's also all in how you study too. So if I weee able to go FTS I would go unless you want to see the world and give your family the ability to go with you (PCS change to overseas instead of stateside) you'll want to stay active duty. It's really what's best for you but looking at it on the Navy side it's what's best for the Navy. You can give the detailers Your choices and let your CCC know and see how it all plays out. Good luck and I hope you get some more inputs!
