This conversation can go many directions. If your profile limits you from doing the most simplest of Soldier tasks then yo may not have a choice. Med board is definitely on the table when you can't perform your MOS specific tasks. Your years in service have little or no effect. It's all about readiness now. They are not holding on to Soliders who can't be ready to deploy, fight ,and win at combat.

At Fort Ord, my next door neighbor was a grounded aviator. The reclassified him to 761a. Property Book Officer. When he rotated he went to be the PBO for the Old Guard at Fort Meyer. The only Battalion in the army commanded by a full bull.

When I was in DC area work for USAREC as a CW3 my good friend SSG Manny Carrillo was a 71L. He was a little heavy because of all the Mexican food he ate. PT was not a problem because he was a racquetball player. I had met him in Graf for a fun tournament. I won the tourney. He was the best player in Graf. Well he PCS'd to the Pentagon and was the 71L for the 3 star G3. He blows out his back and the docs want to cut. I tell him to go see a Chiropractor. He does and pays for it out of pocket. He could not even walk. He was back on court in a month. He ended up being promoted when he retired at 20. 71L's were over strength. In nam he ran a hotel in Saigon.
