I just finished Sergeants Course a couple of days ago. I have been a Sgt for a year and a half. Some of the students in the Course have been Sgts for three years. Why is Marine Corps waiting so long to send Maines to PME? Why doesn't the Marine Corps send a Corporal that is most likely going to obtain the cutting score for Sergeant to Sergeants Course? Ben I fitting that Marine and the Corps.

This is a conversation with many moving parts to explain a "should be simple" answer.

What we know:
Marines complete old PME requirements are grandfathered.

Marines not grandfathered need to complete current PME requirements

Grey area:
Some Marines were promoted without having the requisite PME completed due to needs of the unit (Marine Corps).

Some Marines were meritoriously promoted after completion of an SDA or on a board and are supposed to go to the PME they were unable to attend shortly after (I.e. For Marines completing an SDA within the first couple months of being at new station).

Some Marines who fell into certain requirement categories, went into another component of the USMC/USMCR and thus the requirements changed. If they choose to change components later on (I.e. Active Duty Cpl EAS's and goes into the IRR, gets promoted to Sgt, then goes into the SMCR/IMA/AR/ or back Active and now falls under the PME requirements for that component.

The same reason the Army sent me to the "pre-command" course a year after I had been a Company Commander. lol

It will now be required for E4s to go to these schools before being promoted in the future according to SgtMaj of the Corps
