As much as it rubs me the wrong way, I agree with the principle that it should only be a criminal act if it was used to gain financially, medically, professionally, etc but the simple act of some idiot pinning a ribbon to his jacket shouldn't be a criminal action, no matter what it represents. Now if he gets the crap kicked out of him while wearing it, I can't say I'll lose any sleep either as it's entirely disrespectful and shameful. Where I do draw the line however is the wear of the military uniform by civilians even when it's not used for gain as this could influence decisions made should an emergency situation occur or provide cover for individuals who intend to access restricted areas.

Halloween only comes once a year. The way I see it, if you make a conscious decision to put on a uniform or even medals with the intent of personal gain then you are committing a criminal act. I mean I don't walk around everyday with a detective shield around my neck playing pretend. I understand the freedom of speech and that is what I fight for. Although I do believe that it should be amended to say that flag burning and such is an act of violence against the United States, and that should we so choose that any veteran is allowed one solid throat punch with reciprocation. I do agree with SGT Christopher Stork when it comes to the uniform though. In times of need people will look to those of us in uniform for help. In the event of an emergency how would the civilian act. I can assure you 99% of the time it would be in a way unbecoming of our uniform and way of life. Also when it comes to stolen valor I think there is an easy solution. If you choose to impersonate someone and shamefully wear their uniform, as soon as you are caught you should be made to put your money wear your mouth is, and earn every last bit of what you have on. I guarantee as soon as one person committing stolen valor wearing 5 or 6 service stripes and a purple heart is forced to earn it.

I don't say anything to these crazies when I see them on the streets because I don't know what they have. I for one know I don't have anything but a Ferber if that so I don't mess with them. However if the throat punch comes into effect I'd participate.
