Saw this floating around Facebook posted by a friend. What do you think? What would you do? Think good old Saj-Maj went a bit far?

You know, I really thought about it but I'm not sure that MPs would care.

I am not a JAG lawyer, but the vehicle in question is privately owned. I think taking the license plate might be overstepping his authority. Just my opinion. Why not just leave a note that your presence is requested?

Well you'd also have to figure the SGM would say that it had fallen off. So kind of hard to say that the SGM actually removed it. Being the son of a SGM, it would take a seasoned vet to get the better of them. :)

Maj Robert Thornton - Yes, leaving the note is ok but He didn't have the right to remove that license plate at all. Even the Police can't remove the plate unless the plate itself was attached to a vehicle it didn't belong on or wasn't valid. In that case the plate itself is direct evidence in and of itself to be used in a trial or other legal proceeding. The Sergeant Major was 100% wrong to remove that plate. Once You damage or remove anything from the private vehicle of another You can be criminally charged and the Sergeant Major is lucky that didn't happen to Him.

The Sergeant Major might not think it was so funny if He were criminally charged for removing or damaging anything on the private vehicle of another. He had NO right to do that and even the Police can't remove it unless the plate itself is direct evidence ie stolen, placed on a vehicle it didn't belong on or not valid such as expired. He can leave the note but not take anything off the vehicle including the license plate.

I'm curious about the rest of the story. Why did he steal the license plate? Why did he want to talk to him in the first place?

Actually not even sure. I remember when I was a boot PFC, one of the squad leaders got an NJP for having a hat on his dash that said "fuck bitches". But the world may never know...
