http://www.crosscountrycycle4vets.com/My name is Tracy, and I need your help, I am a veteran of the Navy. March 2018, I along with Martin have formed Cross Country Cycle 4 Vets and we will be cycling 3142 miles across the USA from San Diego CA to St Augustine FL to raise money to support my fellow veterans and 1st Responders through the Gary Sinise Foundation. We will be starting our journey from the flight deck of the USS Midway, this ship has special memories of my Navy days in Yokosuka Japan. Thank You for letting us start our journey aboard the USS Midway for my journey in the Navy started waking up next to you in Japan when I was stationed on the USS Kittanning YTB787. Then we will be guided through the streets of San Diego by the Memorial Truck driven by Dane for the dipping of our tires at the Ocean Beach Park and off we go. All the donations will be going to the Gary Sinise foundation. Gary played the role of Lt Dan in the movie Forrest Gump and also received by the Council of Trustees of the Association of the United States Army has selected Gary Sinise as the 2017 recipient of the George Catlett Marshall Medal. The medal is awarded for sustained commitment to the men and women of America's armed forces.
As we arrive in St Augustine we will be guided in by the Amvets Freedom Riders to end our journey at St Augustine Beach.
I had the pleasure of being in the US Navy 83-87 and then I had the joys and pains of being a Navy spouse for 15 years. I also come from a very long line of Military background just to mention a few, a 4th Great Grandfather in the Revolutionary War, a 2nd Great Grandfather being in the Civil War, an Uncle in Imo Jima while another Uncle shot down over France during WWII only to be MIA in the Korean War, my father being in the Navy on the USS Courtney, to me in the Navy.
I thought we needed to do something to support my fellow veterans and military personal. And help them with the challenges that some undoubtedly face today. So this is our way of shinning a light, and letting them know that they are appreciated for all they do for us. For their sacrifices and commitments. I remember after I returned from being stationed Japan, I went to Washington DC, I was visiting the WWII memorial. I was listening to two older men standing in conversation, one looking at the memorial and said “that’s the thing about freedom “it isn’t free”. I think I heard some similar sentiments expressed over the years. At that time and place I couldn’t help getting choked up and maybe I dropped a few tears.
While we may be the only people traveling the entire distance from San Diego to St. Augustine, there are going to be numerous people behind us, backing us up and cheering us on. I hope that you will be one of them.
