Lots of stings going on around bases after Desert Storm. The FBI set up shop near Camp Lejeune and were buying stuff. No weapons to my knowledge but lots of gas masks, 782 gear etc. A few did some major time over it. This is different because it's supposed to be a government program to resell to law enforcement. Glad they cracked it because they likely had access to all sorts of stuff and we don't need that in the community. It's out there anyway and for a price one can buy almost anything. Another challenge for making us safer.

PFC (Join to see) - the guys after DS were active duty selling to locals, some worked in supply and even set up small shops, so FBI & ATF set up one of their own and scored big, the base and town papers were lively with Police Reports at that time, lots of deserters and folks that suddenly decided they were conscientious objectors when II MEF rolled out of town, USMC was handing out Dishonorable Discharges like candy, they hammered them hard besides DD's with max fine/bust and prison, zero tolerance was an understatement

CWO3 (Join to see) - damn that's just amazing how much disciplinary problems there were back then were any of them played up just a bit though I know that the Marines like the rest of the Force was scaling back and kicking many folks out

PFC (Join to see) - it had to do with a lot of people going to war and a choice few deciding "they'd prefer not to" and the Corps took a very dim view on that so they hammered them, as it should be, the peace dividend that cut military from 2.1 to 1.4 million AD hadn't started yet and this was just a backlog of folks in the brig

Suppose it was only a matter of time before the bad guys figured this scam out. While I'm fully behind providing excess equipment to law enforcement the process seems that have become like placing an order with Amazon. Way more checks and balances needed and hopefully incidents like this will wake people up.

Yes it does bring some inconvenient questions on how the getting process is in making purchases.
