Colonel Michael Bob Starr is a leader with a mission. “When it comes to border security, politicians from both major political parties have failed,” said the recently retired Commander of the 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess Air Force Base. He formally announced his bid for Congress on Veteran’s Day.
“Defending the border has been essential to every military campaign I’ve fought in, and I want to put that leadership and military experience to work, serving the people of the 19th District of Texas,” says Starr. “It’s not just a border security problem, it’s a national security problem. We need leaders with the background and experience to get the job done. Friday’s cowardly attacks on Paris remind us that terrorism can happen any time, anywhere, and they could have just as easily happened on U.S. soil.”
“ISIS and other terrorist organizations are escalating their attacks and they must be dealt with swiftly and decisively,” continued Starr. “I’ve been defending the Constitution for the last 23 years as a member of the United States Air Force, and now I want to continue defending the Constitution as a citizen representative of the families in West Texas and the Big Country.”
A conservative Republican and decorated veteran, Starr was responsible for more than 12,000 active duty members, civilian employees and family members as Dyess’ 7th Bomb Wing Commander. He was also a B-1 instructor pilot with 2,000 flying hours, including more than 600 in combat.
“We must take the fight to the terrorists wherever they are until we get the job done,” says Starr. “It is critical that we make sure fighting terrorists is always an away game, and that we protect American soil.”
“Colonel Starr is not a politician and has never run for office,” says Vinny Minchillo, Glass House Strategy Principal and consultant to the Starr campaign. “He left a promising military career because he’s seen the inability of politicians in Washington to deliver results on critical issues like border security and national security. Colonel Starr has led in combat in the Middle East. He understands that region first hand, and believes that security must begin here at home.”
In addition to border security and national security, Starr’s priorities include:
advocating for Energy and Agriculture and their unique role in TX-19
reducing the size and scope of the federal government
balancing the federal budget
repealing Obamacare
keeping taxes low while simplifying the tax code
protecting Veterans and their spouses
defending the 2nd Amendment
protecting the unborn
Starr has received numerous awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit, three Bronze Star Medals, three Meritorious Service Medals, four Air Medals, the Aerial Achievement Medal, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Air Force Academy, and a Master’s degree from the Harvard JFK School of Government. Starr and his wife of 23 years, Kim, have two sons in college. They are active in their local church and live in Abilene, TX.
