MSG (Join to see) Hard to believe that a soldier thought the war was still going on all the way to 1974. He was still fighting WWII when I was born, which is just odd to me.
Sakae Oba has more to the story. Don Jones, the American who accepted his surrender, met with Oba later in life. When he did, he returned the sword which had been part of the formal surrender. To me it is the best thing that came from the war in the Pacific, the U.S. and Japanese soldiers who were able to meet years after the war and find a comaraderie in their shared experience despite fighting on opposite sides of the war.
