Most historical wars are odd by nature. Blowing up, shooting, and torturing thousands of people seems downright bizarre when you consider that it was usually all caused by the actions of a small group of power-crazed individuals. On a brighter note, war has led to some of the strangest and most interesting stories in history.

Here are pictures of other bizarre incidents from WWII
Battle of Ramree island - Japanese wandered into a crocodile infested swamp and many were eaten alive;
Dunkirk evacuation - the Germans for some strange reason let most British soldiers escape to fight again in 1940.
Some of Gen Billy Mitchell's B-25s that bombed Japan landed in China and were greeted by Chinese with parasols, etc.
Mysterious death of General George Patton in 1945.
