Okay SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL George Orwell and Aldus Huxley would be rolling around laughing at words which appear to be in the English language but are not necessarily logical - inductive, deductive or even Boolean.:-)
So by a wave of a wand, 10 male or female soldiers or some combination want to be officially referred to as members of the opposite gender.
Background: I was part of the first Military Service Academy class which included women as cadets and saw all the high-priority national effort that went into getting it right and the major areas they missed first-hand which caused trauma to both men and women at the academy and afterwards.
Here are some off the top of my head rhetorical questions:
1. What does this mean before gender reassignment surgery?
Will the soldiers be able to part of teams of their chosen gender?
Will they be issued gender-specific uniforms and turn in their previous gender specific uniforms and underclothes?
Will their personnel files be completely updated to reflect the new desired gender?
2. Will gender reassignment surgery be optional? Who will pay for it? Who or what is liable for problems with the surgery or post-surgical treatments?
3. Will personnel files be updated based on expressed desire or will they only be updated after successful gender reassignment surgery?

SSG Patricia King - Thanks for sharing your story. Did the military issue or exchange gender-specific uniform items you or will that take place after gender reassignment surgery?

LTC Stephen F. - They did not. I had to purchase my new dress uniform myself. I was happy to do so. But all future clothing and RFO issues will be for female clothing.

SSG Patricia King - Thanks for letting us know that you were required to purchase your new dress-uniform yourself.

I personally disagree with this policy change as it adds additional cost that the taxpayer must cover.

I have a feeling that any 'required' surgeries will be given unfair priority. I had to wait 15 months for NECESSARY neurosurgery. I fail to see all the urgency and high profile attention given for such a minuscule percentage of the armed forces.

It is a political hot potato. You are expected to support it with a passion and without question. Certain things you cannot talk about and are career killers when you quantify and support an argument in the forbidden no-go zones of gender equality and transgender policies. What next? There will be a next. Pederasty normalization with consenting minors? That is the one gaining HUGE traction.

Example: I could not even ask how three female soldiers became pregnant just before a deployment and did not deploy with us and upon return, not one of them had given birth. I was forbidden to even ask if they were OK. It was obvious to us all that they had sought abortions off base while we were deployed. The other hot issue were women getting pregnant while we were deployed or fraternizing. It was a huge blow to morale and caused CONSTANT friction among the unit. You probably already know that women that get pregnant while deployed is not because their birth control failed, but because they knew it was a quick ticket back to CONUS.
