Outstanding tribute, I personally served in the 1st Brigade "Bastogne" of the 101st. One of the best units in the Army and proud of its history.

I think I may have actually seen one of their weekly reunions when my wife and I stayed at a hotel near Hershey PA I think they were meeting and I recall possibly and I don't know for sure Maj dick winters I'm not certain however I do recall it was an airborne breakfast or brunch meeting though I only listened and said nothing obviously.

That was an awesome tribute to the 101st Airborne. This is where they got the band of brothers movie from, the name battling bastards of Bastogne and other great history that was made by the 101st. Let's not forget the movie saving private Ryan also had to deal with the 101st.

SGT Joe Downs
I was privelaged to have my WWII & Korea & Vietnam retired SGM Dad and a WWII trooper w/2 combat jumps attend my 1st Brigade Change of Command as "Distinguised Guests". SGM Downs and Sgt. James "Jim" Edgar had a high-speed and squared away LT assigned to them for the day as their sponsor/guide. I was only the guy who facilitated the invite. But seeing my Dad and Sgt. Edgar up on the reviewing stand being introduced as WWII, Korea and Vietnam combat soldiers and Honored guests and watching the reactions at B Co. 2/327th after the ceremony was one of the finest days in my assignment to the 101. All us younger guys were in awe of the living history that walked and talked among us that day. And they ate at the Mess Hall with us afterwards! Sgt. Edgar was a fellow Postal Worker with my retired SGM Dad in Jefferson City, TN and thats how the invite came about. And I know for a fact that it was a highlight of both Dad's and Sgt. Edgars lives, as thats all Sgt. "Jim" could talk about for weeks afterward. Sgt. "Jim" was all smiles about having the Brigade Commander render honors and a Hand Salute to these two old warbirds. And, NO, I didn't get hazed too badly after it was over, but I caught hell from TOP about how big a pair of shoes I had to fill after he found out! From that day on I was expected to be STRAC 24/7/365 with ZERO defects. And "volunteer" for every school and opportunity to be the "Best of the Rest" and "No Slack". RIP, Dad, Sgt. Edgar and CSM(Ret) Joseph Bossi, I'll never ever forget!
