On the contrary. I think many people do this (especially young people). They essentially "go with the flow" and expect things to "work themselves out". This type of passive thinking can lead to an individual making excuses for their failures. I think the article is simply saying that success is largely tied to what we make happen, rather than what we let happen (IMHO).
