Army chief OKs earbuds in the gym; new policy coming soon

First, the good news: The Army’s top general has approved a proposal allowing soldiers to wear earbuds when working out in a gym in their PT uniform.
The bad news: It’s not quite official yet, so leave those earbuds at home tomorrow morning.
“Until the new policy is published, as an Army directive or as an update to AR 670-1, soldiers are to adhere to the current policy,” said Paul Prince, an Army spokesman.
He added, "We are working diligently to implement the change as soon as possible while making sure we have properly vetted the proposed guidance through the Army Publishing Process,” he said.
Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey brought the proposal to Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley after months of feedback from soldiers, including during town hall meetings and troop visits.

CPT (Join to see) absolutely, there should be a solid SOP throughout the Army IAW: AR 670-1 for good measure.

CPT (Join to see) "Situational awareness", what a great comment. There are many weekend bicyclists in my AO. I shudder when I see one of them wearing earbuds. Not only are they at risk for not hearing approaching traffic, but is against a CA law.

Not surprising that Army is announcing this on its own SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. It would make more sense for DoD to issue a policy like this since there are so many joint base facilities with service men and women sharing gyms.
I suppose morning PT will one day include issuing ear buds to everybody so unit runs can all listen to the same jodies and sing along.
I wonder when the policy against haring ear buds will be issued to reduce communicable disease spread as well as ear infection risk.
