Thanks for sharing SSgt Robert Marx the background on the under development of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS). Since we abandoned funding for Star Wars anti-ballistic missile capability so long ago, North Korea has been doing its damdest to develop ICBM capability.
I concur that a "fully capable IBCS is a must-have for the US Army to operate effectively in the Korean theater and elsewhere."
Hopefully this capability will get joint service and JCS backing without the usual inter-service bickering about turf.

I believe the South Korean government acted foolishly concerning the THAAD deployment on their territory. The U.S. Army has a powerful incentive to improve its missile defense and I believe that they can do it, especially joined with the Navy.

We need missile defense long ago. Remember Star Wars....IF we had fully funded and continued funding Star Wars North Korea would be less relevant and it would only be poor with not gain. Do not think nKorea is the only need for missile defense Russia and China. We are a day late and it is be much more expensive to do Star Wars now.

I agree with that, Jim, but it has been my understanding that missile defense has been funded each fiscal year with several billions of dollars since Reagan in the 1980's so that would amount to hundreds of billions of dollars. The AEGIS system fitted on warships also has great technology to shoot down missiles. There are many THAAD missile protection sites set up in CONUS.

I thought there were 110 bought on FY13 funds.... 144 does not seem like a lot when defending against a national state actor like Russia or even China. http://defense-update.com/20120102_united-states-to-sell-thaad-to-the-uae.html In this government-to-government agreement, the United States will deliver 96 missiles, two Raytheon AN/TPY-2 radars, replacement parts, training, and logistical support to the UAE. No delivery schedule was announced, but the work is tentatively projected to continue through June of 2016.
