Sir,

Thank you for posting. I am currently an ROTC cadet set to commission in a year and a half. Does the Civil Affairs branch take new lieutenants? I did a quick search on the goarmy.com website and it's not listed as an entry-level position, but logic tells me there (has) to be some new Lieutenant somewhere. I'm highly interested in Civil Affairs and would appreciate any knowledge you could impart or direct me to.

Cadet Moody...good question. There are no LT 38A (Civil Affairs) positions. CPT is the lowest 38A position (Team Leader is a majority of those positions). Officers that want to become Civil Affairs serve in their basic branch as a LT and then submit a packet as a 1LT when the MILPER message is released from HRC for the ARSOF board on the active duty side.

I recommend checking the USAJFKSWCS page as well as the USACAPOC page for info as well.

The first question should be active duty or Reserves? For AD that is correct. For the Reserves, you may, I say again, MAY be able to join a USAR CA unit, but you would still have to serve your LT time in your assigned basic branch before getting a school slot. This was the case pre- 9/11. The Reserves may be more constrained now.

My question is if you know when E-7's are going to be accepted again so I can submit my packet

SFC Dominguez, for the active component, I am not aware of any current exceptions that are being considered. However, I would check with a couple of places. First place to check is with the Civil Affairs Proponency Office. You can check out their Facebook Page and post your question at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Civil-Affairs-Proponency/ [login to see] 3962?fref=nf The other place is the Special Operations Recruiting Battalion homepage at: http://www.sorbrecruiting.com then click the CA link. I hope that helps you with your question.

I believe some applications are being accepted. USAR NCOs are usually required to attend the current pipeline course for some updated training, language and additional SOF skills. ARSOF NCOs have a great future both near and far term.
