It has been 15 years since one of the most devastating days in American history.
September 11, abbreviated 9/11, is a day that every American can tell you where they were and who they were with when those planes crashed and changed all of our lives forever. No one knew what was happening or why.
Children were confused because they couldn’t understand why all of the adults were crying and screaming. Adults were distraught because they couldn’t get into contact with loved ones in Manhattan and at the Pentagon.
Watching the news that day was horrifying to see those planes crashing into the Twin Towers and people jumping out of buildings. All around the world, the media captured those terrifying moments.
But some people also managed to get videos of heroic moments caught on film as well, like these first responders bravely marching into the fray just moments before the Twin Towers collapsed.
While we grieved and raged as a country over these terrorist attacks, our friends across the globe sent out their support. One of the most memorable signs of love for the U.S. came from England.
The Queen of England broke protocol after 9/11 to show England was there for the U.S. She ordered the Royal Guards to play America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

As a student of history, I have always admired Queen Elizabeth. As a princess, she served her people well and with exceptional gallantry. As Queen, she has stood as an example of dignity in the face of adversity. As I near the completion of Churchill's 7-volume biography, I'm learning even more about her and my opinion grows stronger. Nothing she does for the good surprises me. Although I do not want to have a monarch, I can well understand the respect and loyalty she commands from her people

That's beautiful, I just got goosebumps and a little teary eyed reading that. 9/11 is the reason many of us joined the military or at least a part of the factor.
