When I was in just being off base in a working uniform was a big no-no. Towards the end of my service they relaxed it some and you could go to or from base in dungarees but weren't even supposed to stop for gas on the way.

PO2 Aitchinson; I to remember that relaxing of BDU's for travel to and from work only no stop overs.

Force protection: You are supposed to look like you are part of the population. Wearing your ACUs on a flight, terminal, or in Taxi make you stand out and also makes you a target. Soldiers should never travel in ACUs unless they have no other recourse. Traveling from a deployment (combat zone/emergency leave) should be the exception to the rule. Otherwise fly in civilian clothing so you blend in. Sorry, but that is how it is in the Marine Corps. Keeping America safe for 240 years. Semper Fi.

I have to agree with force protection, but as we know if there is a serious incident on board an airline you can and will be found out as being in the military ie. dog tags, ID cards.

I too disagree with this uniform on commercial flights, particularly on layovers for long flights when Service Menbers have a tendancy to get sloppy when tired. But we do not get a vote. Let's do what we always do and police each other.
