Fort Hood IDs soldier found dead in off-post home

A 34-year-old 1st Cavalry Division soldier died Wednesday after he was found unresponsive at his off-post home near Fort Hood, the Texas installation announced Friday.
Sgt. Duane Cass Shaw III was taken to a hospital in nearby Temple, where he was pronounced dead. No further details were provided; the incident is under investigation, according to a Friday news release.
Shaw entered service in December 2005 and had been assigned to 8th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, since last June. The chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist deployed in support of Operation New Dawn in 2011 and in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013, the release states.
He earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, a Combat Action Badge and a Driver and Mechanic Badge with Wheeled Vehicle Bar among other awards and decorations, according to the release.
Shaw's death is the third reported this week by Fort Hood officials and the 12th reported this month, including nine from a June 2 mishap when a Light Medium Tactical Vehicle overturned at a flooded low-water crossing.

My sympathies to the family SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I remember when I was stationed with the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, the soldier in the bunk next to me did not wake in the morning. Turns out he succumbed to regurgitation while sleeping die to excessive alcohol consumption. It was sad for all of us.

I am glad that Sgt. Duane Cass Shaw III's body was found apparently soon after death SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
Since the incident is under investigation I expect the investigators found evidence of some type.
Hopefully they will soon get to the bottom of his cause of death.
