I never gave much thought to it when I was younger either. To busy trying to survive. Not much room for anything else. Self absorbed maybe?

I grew up with politics and the news at a young age. My dad was also a deputy sheriff at the time. We watch the news all the time back in the 70s, my dad's subscribed to pretty much every magazine time, Newsweek US News & World Report, Los Angeles Times and so I basically was reading about the news for hearing about it all the time. When I was young kid, I remember watching and reading about Vietnam being attacked by the North and how the Vietnamese were fleeing from all the major cities or getting on the last plane out. Weeks later, my mother was at Camp Pendleton for a month helping with her United Way agency help resettle those Vietnamese that were picked up by the US Navy. So back in 1975, I got my first reality about news and political Affairs. I was only 12 years old back then. From that point forward, I always followed the news. While my wife likes watching the Kardashian or other stupid reality shows, I like watching the news because as a soldier and the reserve component, any war that breaks out can make a potential situation for myself for my unit to be called up to go help out with it afterwards

LTC Tom Jones thank you, Tom, it is rubbing off on my 11 year old daughter. She likes watching the news, she knows about Kim Jong fatty the Third. She likes history as well and she was really intrigued by the movie Dunkirk. My wife and seven-year-old were bored to death but my seven-year-old and I were watching the movie with full attention. I taught my daughter about the Battle and showed her the trailer as well as simple history.
